can’t stop falling for those sparkly blood suckers
March 6, 2010 on 12:32 am | In Uncategorized | No Commentsim stuck… i found myself reading the sookie stackhouse books, by charlaine harris. I finished reading the second one, Living Dead In Dallas, last weekend. So far ive found that they are kind of trashy, “far out” and the adult equivelent to the twilight books for adults… but best of all.. they are fun. So what if sookie is a twit, speaks like a moron, and her love of her life is not only dead, but is a bit on the creeeeepy sounding side, the concept is just fun. I love it. I love it so much im planing to read the third one… that is, after i read a handful of other books ive picked up in the meantime…
… back….. again…
February 9, 2010 on 11:35 pm | In Uncategorized | No Commentsits been nearly a year since i blogged last. lots of books have been read since then. I feel like i traveled a thousand or so miles in the shoes of the personalities in the books i read. I left off with edward, Bella and co, and went up to Canada.. or better yet, PEI.. and spent some time with anne shirley. I watched her grow from a little girl to a woman i would be proud to be friends with as an adult.
From PEI i went off to England.. and i spent lots of time off at hogwarts with harry potter and crew. I was annoyed by Harry and his buddy Ron as young boys, but as they grew I found that they were pretty good kids after all. I cried when dumbledore and snape were taken out… I lauged at the boys attempt at romance.. how nice it is to escape into worlds where we will never really be able to walk in.
from the land of hogwarts i took some time to investigate some mysteries.. the most fun was the one i found in “the rose labyrinth. … however when i undertook dan browns newest the lost symbol i was very sad and disapointed… and to think hes got ideas for 12 more books.. i can only hope they get better then this last one was.
I stepped into the world of the pink carnation once again for the third instalment. can’t wait to get around to the next one. I think my favorite part is seeing that it is the women in the book that are truly the heroes.. and not the macho guy. I had so much fun reading about Napoleon era England, that i decided to read a few fiction books about Jane Austen.. huge huge huge mistake.. ack! I think from here out i will think of Jane as I always have, as a good lady, who pushed a few literary boundaries, and gave us heroes .. that still are our heroes decades later.
I dabbled a bit in romance and in other mysteries.. traveling all over time, as well as all over the world. 30 books later.. I don’t think I’m any smarter, but I do feel more traveled.
something about harry….
March 17, 2009 on 12:26 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI fought the urge for over eight years. I never picked up a Harry potter book, except to move it around when I worked in a bookstore, or to perhaps look at the back cover and try to figure out just what it was that made everyone so harry crazy. I thought that everyone had gone nuts, and that it was just another bunch of books that everyone was reading because everyone else was, and just to stay in the loop they decided they had to.
Well, My whole concept of harry changed, and in a quick period of time. I had a great roller coaster ride with bella and edward. I wished madly for a great and caring friend like jacob black, and before I could do much more then blink, I was left standing alone wondering what to read next, I needed something that wouldn’t tax my mind much. So, having acquired a few harry potter books by friends who “loved them” I picked up the first one. I read it in just a few short days. … and it left me with smiles, … and a feeling that there was just something missing, something more had to happen, so that harry could have such a huge fallowing. so I read the next one, and then to my horror, i got the third one from the library. Astounding. I realized that there was something really fun about harry potter. I am now on my fourth book. and its a bit slower going then some of the others, but I see that it has potential.
Its amazing how different the YA selections have changed since they were age appropriate for me. I remember the likes of paul zindel, m e kerr, and norma and harry mazer being the most sought after and amazing books… they were so true to life, so hard, so truthful, nothing like the books of today.. though perhaps today’s generation of young adults need the lighter side? Who knows, I guess I should just be glad that kids now days are reading at all.
getting there!!
March 6, 2009 on 12:57 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI openly admit to being stupid when it comes to most computer related stuff. I get just as lost navigating very techy sites, as i do driving around in new neighborhoods. The good thing I have about computer stuff is that I am very involved with a computer genius… the same one that built this site.. so when i played the stupid card, he fixed things for me and made getting to my blog easier. Thus said, if he ever gets around to reading this, I hope he knows that he is a good man.. and does good stuff… thanks.
anyhow,… I decided that I would finally read Harry Potter. I read the first book in 3 nights. I think I needed a break from reading The Stand. Harry is much less stressful, and demanding. The book was overall OK.. Not quite up to my standards, but completely readable, and it is most definitely catchy. The second harry book is on my desk right now as I write this.
At this point I am still thinking that I like the concept of vampires and warewolves over wizards and wizard school, but I will be sure to give a full report, when I have had my fill.
fear
March 3, 2009 on 1:10 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI haven’t been blogging much as of late. Im not so sure why, other then perhaps my heart was not into it. every time i turn around as of late it seems as if someone is getting laid off, or a company is closing. Business is down everywhere, and when one person looses a job, that persons loss impacts the jobs of others. It is a very frightening fact.
I’m a little over 200 pages into Stephen King’s “The Stand”. I don’t think this is a good time to be reading this book. My mind keeps wandering to the above stated national issues. If you have no clue what this book is about, its about a flu like, highly communicable diseasethat wipes out most of the human population. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what kind of life you live, you can catch it, and die, just like that.
on the lighter side of things, I read 3 of the 4 twilight books. I have finished about half of the 2nd one(new moon) but I got sick of going to the bookstore to read it, and I’m still waiting for it from the library, and I’m just too darn stubborn and cheap to go buy the book so I know the gist of it, but not its entierty. I don’t think I missed too much, because I fell right at home with the 3rd and 4th book withno real holes. I can understand the random of the books. The allure of the Cullen clan, and the traditional werewolf pack(by the way, I am more of a Jake fan then an Edward fan if my vote is being counted anywhere.).
I’ve been trying to come up witha book I can read alongside The stand. I need to keep something handy to keep me from getting to wound up. Who ever knew that reading could be a stressful thing. All I have to say is that This book better have an awesome ending, or it is the last Stephen king book I will ever be reading!
welcome to 2009
March 1, 2009 on 1:14 pm | In Uncategorized | No Commentsso, its been a very long time since my last post. I have my reasons.. such as xmas, new years, home improvement project and struggling for nearly 3 months to re read bram stokers Dracula. I don’t remember dracula being such a drag when I read it over 10 years ago.. but this time it just kept on going.. with no end in sight.
2009 is here, and for me that is a great thing. I have no reading goals in sight.. though who knows, maybe one will spring up mid year or something. I have already started out the year with a really fun book(as I say this I can feel myself blush a bit.) Yes, i am contiuning with my vampire theme(ohh a challeng or goal?) At 30 years old I openly admit to having fallen in love with Edward cullen of twilight. I read the book in 3 days, and was depressed when it ended. surely this is not normal, but alas, that is what happened. so i am no awaiting the next one New Moon, from the library. as of now i am 71 of 90 on the waiting list. yikes.
on the not so vampire side of things, I am now reading Anne of avonlea. I like this on much better then i liked anne of green gables. it has so much more hummor to it, and anne is no longer as much a twit.
I picked up the book P.S. I love you.. thinking it was going to be an awesome book, but was
magic
November 8, 2008 on 12:39 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentI have begun reading sarah addison allen’s second book “the sugar queen”. Its perfect. There is something absolutely realisticly magical about SAA’s books. Yes the element of magic is right there in plain view, but they are not way out there, lets wave wands around, and what have you.
The sugar queen is a cute little book.. so far.. of a girl with a little bit of money, who gets stuck taking care of her elderly mother, and knows so little of the world you feel like you just want to protect her one minute, and stick her out in the middle of anywhere and tell her to grow up and be brave. Josie(the girl) meets a few girl friends along the way, that help her to grow.
as of now SAA gets 2 thumbs up.. keep up the good work.. and send us lots more magic!!!
Winter!
October 29, 2008 on 9:22 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentLast night we got snow… enough for me to realize that winter is way too close to make me happy! I like fall! I wish we could have fall all year!!!
Seeing that its October.. or spook month as I like to call it, I am taking on Dracula again! Its my second time reading it.. but its been 12 years.. and last october I read the historian.. and its always fun to compare.
I finished reading a very cool illustrated bio of mark twain last night! Awesome pictures!! Its the first bio I have ever taken on. When I got to the end last night, and spent about 5 min staring at the book scowling, my bf had no choice but to ask me what was going on. I told him “i finished the book, it was sad.” His response was “Why”… and instead of saying “Dugh”.. i politely pointed out, that MT died at the end.. to which I got the “dugh, thats why they call it a biography.. and everyone does die you know!!
Election time is almost here.. we are not watching television in our house.. and we cant wait til the day finaly makes it here!!!
September is gone…….
October 2, 2008 on 10:08 pm | In Uncategorized | No Commentsa big sorry to everyone, or anyone that reads this blog… I’ve been away… busy.. mostly with job hunting.. and some other crazy stuff.
I did get to read some fun stuff lately though….and that was fun
I read Anne of green gables by l.m. Montgomery…. i read it as a kid with my dear old nana.. but its been a long time.. and for some reason the only part that i really remembered about the whole book was the part where she is in the boat reciting the lady of shallot, and the boat sunk. it was a fun “revisit”
I also read another stephanie plum bounty hunter book.. the 5th one… that was cool too. I think of sandra Bullock everytime i try to put a celebrety face on stephanie…. Queen latifah would be lula… and i mean that in the best of ways because i think ql is an awsome lady and could give lula some real class!!
i picked up gregory maguire’s son of a witch… again.. it is nowhere near as good as wicked.. and now they are doing a 3rd book!!! how cool is that? i am excited!!!!
ive been reading one last book.. i think its called “any given doomsday”… its weird.. its an arc.. did i mention that i thought it was weird???
that said.. im off to do more reading!
I like libraries and republicans suck!!!
September 4, 2008 on 9:30 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 Commentmy title doesn’t make a lot of sense, but right now that it what im thinking. Today between work and coming home i stopped at the friendly library near my house. Ive had this idea floating around in my head ever since a good friend of mine challenged me to do some writing.. something i haven’t done in a while.. so back to my library experience… I checked out several books about mark twain.. and as i was leaving the library clerk smiled and said “oh, you must like mark twain a lot”.. to which i replied “maybe”.. at the time it seemed funny though perhaps now it isn’t… umm yeah.. ok..
So anyway, the second part of this little rant is that im so very hateful feeling of the republicans right now! I hate that Mccain felt so desperate that he picked some very pretty motherly chick on his ballot just to get the voters. I am so sick of this election i wish that they would all just go away, and we could start this insane election all over again with normal, non back stabbing folks that want to help the country rather then just be chosen president.
